Since the 1960s, the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is one of the largest and oldest educational jazz festivals in the world. With over 400 student performances, a dozen world-class jazz artists and nearly 100 workshops, clinics and special exhibits, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival honors the music, dance and history of jazz music and one of its most honored artists, Lionel Hampton. Die Fledermaus
The Lionel Hampton School of Music presents Johann Strauss Jr’s Die Fledermaus. Join us as we waltz our way through masked balls, mistaken identities, and intrigue in this golden age Viennese bedroom comedy. Be prepared for a hint of risqué charm that might just leave you blushing from the scandal that unfolds. But fear not, the true culprit is none other than the effervescent champagne!
The opera is sung in German with English supertitles and dialogue and showcases the collaboration of LHSOM and the Theatre Department, accompanied by Strauss’ unforgettable melodies played by the U of I orchestra.
